04 Our story
Bloom & Thread began in 2016 on Imogen Hale’s kitchen table, with a borrowed sewing machine and a stack of vintage dress patterns. Priya Raman, a weaver who lived upstairs, came down for a cup of tea and stayed for the next ten years.
Today we are eleven makers working from the old hardware store on Cobbler’s Row. We cut each piece in a run of forty or fewer, finish the edges by hand and sell what we make through this little shop and one slightly larger one on the market square. Nothing is made until there is room for it on the rail.
💗 Imogen & Priya
Imogen draws each piece twice: once for how it looks, once for how it moves.
Organic cotton, European linen and recycled merino from mills we have visited.
Runs of forty or fewer, cut and sewn within a mile of the shop.
Pressed, folded and tied up with ribbon before it goes in the post.
05 Kind words
I am between sizes and the tie waist solved it. The voile is light enough for a 90 degree day and the print is even prettier in person. Four compliments at the farmers’ market already.
Tortoiseshell buttons, a proper weight of cotton-merino, and no pilling after six washes. Size down if you like it neat; true to size if you like it slouchy.
They came in a little linen pouch with a handwritten card. The pearls have real lustre, and the gold has not bothered my sensitive ears once.
Holds a laptop, a baguette and a bunch of flowers without complaint. The handles are comfortable. Slightly stiff at first, and it softened within a week.
Ordered for my mum’s birthday with a note in the box. The wrapping was gorgeous, it arrived two days early, and she is keeping the box for her buttons.
The broderie looks delicate and survived a trip, a toddler and the washing machine. I have ordered it in blush as well. Quick, kind service when I needed an exchange.
