Our morning

The plan, in pictures

Same order every time, so little ones always know what comes next. Tap a picture to see what happens, and what grown-ups can do while it does.

10:00

10:00 to 10:15 15 minutes Step 1 of 6

Hello and shoes off

A girl in a white dress arranges a pastel garden party table with flowers, teddy bears, pink cups, paper pom-poms and bunting in front of a pale blue wooden house.

The gate opens at 10:00. Shoes and socks come off on the porch mat (there is a labeled shoe rack), and little hands get a splash at the garden sink before anyone heads for the lawn.

😊 For little ones

  • Pick a name sticker: stars, moons and dinosaurs
  • Wave hello to the bunting
  • First stop: the splashy water table

β˜• For grown-ups

  • Park strollers under the green awning
  • Bags go on the bench by the back door
  • Tell us about any allergy you have not mentioned yet
A toddler with twisted braids sits barefoot in warm sand holding a toy dinosaur among colorful wooden shape-sorter pieces.
Sand tray
A red-haired toddler builds a row of natural wooden blocks and towers on a pale floor beside a wooden toy train.
Block table
Overhead view of a toddler reaching out to paint on a white floor splashed with bright paints, brushes and paint pots.
Paint mat

No timetable and no pressure. Wander between a sand tray with scoops and a toy dinosaur, a low table of wooden blocks and a little train, and a washable paint mat spread out on the grass.

😊 For little ones

  • Scoop, pour and bury the dinosaur
  • Build the tallest tower (knocking it down counts)
  • Paint with brushes, hands or toes

β˜• For grown-ups

  • Stay within arm’s reach at the sand tray
  • Coffee, tea and lemon water are on the porch
  • Smocks are on the hooks, so paint is welcome
A small boy in a striped shirt, seen from the side, reaches toward dozens of soap bubbles floating in a shady park.

Priya brings out the big wands and a bucket of the good bubble mix. Little ones chase, stomp and pop; a quieter bubble corner is set up for anyone who would rather watch.

😊 For little ones

  • Chase the giant bubbles across the lawn
  • Pop them with a finger, a foot or a nose
  • Blow your own with the little wands

β˜• For grown-ups

  • Bubble mix is tear-free, but keep it off faces
  • Wipes for sticky hands are at the bench
  • Great moment for photos (ask before sharing!)
Two smiling girls sit with their arms around each other on a pastel striped picnic blanket beside a wicker basket of snacks, with a white sun hat on the lawn.

Everyone sits on the big striped blankets. Small plates, small cups, and every dish is nut-free with its ingredients written on a card in front of it.

😊 For little ones

  • Wash hands (again), then pick a plate
  • Try one new thing, or none at all
  • Clink water cups and say “cheers”

β˜• For grown-ups

  • Read the allergy cards before serving
  • Quarter grapes and anything round
  • Shared snacks go on the long table
Two children seen from behind sit side by side on a gray quilted blanket on sunlit grass, each holding an open picture book.

A quiet reset on the grass. Lucia reads two short picture books with actions and animal noises, then we sing one song together before the goodbyes.

😊 For little ones

  • Sit on a mat, a lap or a tummy (sprawling is allowed)
  • Make the sounds: moo, splash, whoosh
  • Sing along to “The Wheels on the Bus”

β˜• For grown-ups

  • A little rest for you too
  • Phones away if you can
  • A sleepy one can snooze in the shade tent
Three small children seen from behind sitting together in golden meadow grass in front of a backlit tree canopy.

One last round of bubbles, name stickers go home as souvenirs, and everyone gets a high five at the gate. There is no rush: the last family out usually stays for a chat.

😊 For little ones

  • Wave to every friend by name
  • Choose a sunflower seed packet to plant at home
  • High five at the blue gate

β˜• For grown-ups

  • Collect your bags and any wet clothes
  • Say yes or no to the photo-sharing sheet
  • Vote on the next playdate (first Wednesday of November?)

πŸ–¨οΈ Want the picture chart for the fridge? It prints on one page, big enough for little eyes.

Sunshine check

Will it be a sunny day?

We are planning for sun and ready for showers. Try each kind of day to see what we would do, and what to put in the bag.

Grown-ups’ corner

The practical bits

Tucked away so the plan stays simple. Open whatever you need, or open everything at once.

😴 Nap windows10 to 12 sits between the morning and lunchtime naps

We picked 10 to 12 on purpose: it falls between the morning and lunchtime naps for most one to three-year-olds. A pop-up shade tent with a soft mat and a white-noise speaker waits under the maple for catnaps, and story circle stays short and quiet.

When does your little one usually nap?

Pick one and we will tell you how the morning fits.

πŸ…ΏοΈ Stroller parkingUnder the green awning, behind the blue gate

Strollers, wagons and balance bikes park on the flat side path under the green awning, out of the way of the lawn. You do not need to fold anything. A basket by the gate holds sun shades and rain covers, and we label every wheel with a name sticker so the right one goes home.

🚼 Changing stationBack porch, with a quieter spot in the hall

There is a padded changing mat, a lidded bin and a stack of wipes on the back porch, and a second flat surface in the downstairs hall if you would like more privacy. Bring your own diapers or pull-ups; we keep two emergency packs in sizes 3 and 4.

🚻 BathroomJust inside the back door, toddler-ready

The downstairs bathroom has a step stool, a child-size toilet seat and a low sink. There is also a potty on the porch for the very newly trained. Accidents happen at every playdate, and nobody here will blink; that is what the spare clothes are for.

β˜” Rain planDrizzle moves us under cover; storms move us a week

Light rain: play moves to the covered porch and the heated garage studio, with the same three stations and a rug. Bubbles stay outside under the awning.

Heavy rain, thunder or under 45°F: we text everyone by 8:30 am and move to Wednesday 28 October, same time, same blue gate.

πŸ›‘οΈ Safety in the yardFenced, latched and first-aid ready

The yard is fully fenced and the blue gate has a high latch. Lucia and Priya both hold current pediatric first-aid certificates, and a kit lives on the porch shelf. The fire pit is covered and the hose is rolled away. A grown-up stays with each little one at all times.

Quick answers

Good to know

Do I stay, or can I drop off?

A grown-up stays with each little one. It is a playdate, not a drop-off, and toddlers feel braver with you nearby.

Can older siblings come?

Yes, up to age 6, as long as they are happy to play gently around the little ones. Add them in the RSVP and we will bring extra name stickers.

What if my child is unwell?

Please stay home if there has been a fever, a new cough or a tummy upset in the last 24 hours. Text Lucia and we will save you a spot at the next one.

Can I arrive late or leave early?

Come when you can and go when you need to. After 10:20 the gate stays latched while the little ones play, so text Lucia and she will let you in.

Are there pets?

Bruno the beagle lives here, but he spends the whole morning indoors with a chew toy, so allergies and nervous toddlers stay safe.

May I take photos?

Please do. We only ask that you post pictures of your own child, and check with other families before sharing anything with their little one in it.

Wednesday 21 October, 10 am

See you on the blanket!

We cannot wait to watch the little ones meet, chase bubbles and wear their snacks. Bring your coffee mood and leave the rushing at the gate.

With love, Lucia & Priya
